Here are the best RV campgrounds in and around Idyllwild for a snow trip:

1. Idyllwild Campground (Mount San Jacinto State Park)

This is the "gold standard" for a snow trip because it is within walking distance of town. Your can park the RV and walk to the local shops and restaurants without worrying about finding parking for a large vehicle on snowy streets.

• Best For: Access to town and snow play.

• Amenities: Electric and full hookups available, flush toilets, and coin-operated showers.

• Important Note: Maximum RV length is 24 feet.

• Recommened RV: LA1, AN1, CWC1, S3, GD1, LC1

2. Thousand Trails Idyllwild

Located at a higher elevation (7,000+ feet), this is a massive, full-service preserve that feels like a true alpine retreat. 

• Best For: A "resort" feel with plenty of space and mountain views.

• Amenities: Full hookups, a clubhouse, and a dog park. Very family friendly!

• Important Note: They can accommodate larger rigs up to 38 feet, making this the best choice for bigger rental units.

• Recommended RV: B1, B3, S2, W2, LF1, JE1

3. Royal Pines Estates

A quiet, pet-friendly park located right in the Idyllwild-Pine Cove area. It’s known for being very friendly to long-term and short-term visitors alike.

• Best For: A peaceful, "neighborhood" mountain vibe.

• Amenities: Full hookups, laundry facilities, and a cozy atmosphere near Strawberry Creek.

• Recommended RV: J1, LV1, LE1, CWO1, FRC1, COR1

4. Hurkey Creek Park (Riverside County Park)

Located just 8 miles south of Idyllwild in Mountain Center. While it’s a short drive from the main village, it offers a more expansive, meadow-like setting.

• Best For: Large groups and families who want more room for snow play.

• Amenities: 130 individual sites (dry camping mostly, but very RV-friendly).

• Important Note: Be sure to let us know that you will be dry camping and opt for us to fill your fresh water tank so you will have enough clean water for your trip. 

• Recommended RV: W1, CML1, LC2, PA1, CA2, CR1 

Important Tips for Your Snowy RV Adventure in Idyllwild:

1. Check Road Conditions & Chain Requirements: This is CRUCIAL! A Winter Storm Warning is currently in effect. Always check Caltrans for the latest road conditions (Highways 243 and 74 are the main routes) and chain requirements before you head up and even during your stay. Our RVs can handle various conditions, but safety comes first!

2. Winterize Your RV: Don't worry, RV Rentals Way of Life will ensure your rental RV is properly winterized for cold weather. We'll walk you through everything you need to know.

3. Pack Layers: Mountain weather can change quickly. Bring warm, waterproof clothing, hats, gloves, and sturdy, waterproof boots. Are trailers are equipped with ample closet space so you can be prepared with your winter gear. 

4. Propane Levels: We ensure your propane tank is full for heating and cooking. Check your levels often and consume as little propane as possible, especially if you are boondocking. 

5. Book Your Campsite: Even in winter, popular campgrounds can fill up, especially during peak snow conditions. Make reservations in advance, if possible, or check availability for dispersed camping (where allowed).

6. Emergency Kit: Always travel with an emergency kit, including extra blankets, food, water, a first-aid kit, and a shovel. Our trailers provide amply exterior storage for all your snow tools.
